Privacy Policy

1. Who this policy covers

This Privacy Policy applies to the Kopit application for macOS (the App) and the Kopit website (the Site), operated by Kopit (we, us). By using the App or the Site, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Clipboard data stays on your device

Kopit's core function is to keep a searchable history of what you copy. All of that data — including text, rich text, links, images, files, color values, recognized image text, snippets, and expansion rules — is stored locally on your Mac. By default it stays there and is never transmitted to us or to any third party.

Kopit runs no clipboard servers, and we have no ability to access, read, or recover your clipboard history.

Sensitive content protections

To reduce the chance of capturing things you didn't intend, Kopit skips concealed or sensitive clipboard items, skips transient do-not-record pasteboard content, lets you exclude specific apps, and lets you pause capture or clear history at any time. Content that is never captured is never stored — and never synced.

3. Optional iCloud sync

Kopit Pro includes an optional iCloud sync that keeps your clipboard history in step across your own Macs. It is off by default — nothing is synced unless you turn it on and sign in to iCloud.

Sync uses Apple's CloudKit private database inside your own iCloud account, so synced data lives in your iCloud storage, not on any Kopit server. We operate no sync backend and cannot read your synced data.

Synced content is encrypted. Text and metadata are stored in CloudKit's encrypted fields, and larger content — original images, files, and recordings — is end-to-end encrypted by Kopit with a per-item key before it leaves your Mac. If you enable Apple's Advanced Data Protection, all of your synced data is end-to-end encrypted, so not even Apple can read it.

You stay in control: metadata and thumbnails sync while large originals and screen recordings upload only on demand or by your choice, you can exclude individual items or sync text only, and you can turn sync off and erase all synced data from iCloud at any time. Because sync runs through Apple iCloud, it is also subject to Apple's iCloud terms and regional data-storage arrangements.

4. Limited network activity

The App is designed to work offline. It connects to the network only for software updates, license activation and validation, purchases, optional iCloud sync (if you enable it), website operation, and email support. Apart from iCloud sync — which you turn on and which is encrypted as described above — your clipboard content is never part of those exchanges.

6. How we use information

We use the limited information we receive only to deliver and verify updates, activate and manage licenses, process purchases, provide support, operate and secure the App and Site, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

7. Data retention

Clipboard history is retained on your device according to the limits you set, and you can delete it at any time. If you enable iCloud sync, synced data stays in your iCloud account until you delete it or use Kopit's one-tap option to erase all synced data from iCloud. License and purchase records are retained by our providers as long as needed to support your license and meet legal and accounting requirements.

8. Security

Local data is protected by macOS user account and file-system protections. Network requests for updates and licensing use encrypted HTTPS connections, and updates are signature-verified. Synced clipboard data is encrypted in transit and at rest in iCloud, and is end-to-end encrypted when you enable Apple's Advanced Data Protection (see Optional iCloud sync above).

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port personal information, or to object to certain processing. Because your clipboard data lives on your device — and, if you enable sync, in your own iCloud account — you control it directly. For provider-held records, contact hello@kopit.app.

10. Children

Kopit is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

11. International users

Our service providers may process the limited information described above in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers. If you enable iCloud sync, Apple stores your synced data according to your iCloud account's region.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the Last updated date above.
