- Latest version: v1.4.2
- 85 releases

## v1.4.2 — Source-app icons back to their real size — and a little bigger than before

2026-10-25 · Fixes

- The source-app icon on each row is back to its intended size and centred in its cell. In the last release it was drawn at half size and pushed into the bottom-left corner — exactly the first cue telling you which app a clip came from, and easy to miss at that size. It now sits where it belongs.
- It has also grown to 1.2× its previous size. The icon spans the bottom edge of the cell just as the thumbnail above it does, so a row's origin registers before you read a word. The longer your history and the more alike the entries, the more that helps.
- In window mode, hovering a category tab brings its name tooltip back. The bubble used to be clipped away entirely by the container that scrolls the list, leaving only the tab's own highlight; it now escapes that edge and appears in full.

## v1.4.1 — Scrolling that keeps up with your hand, and favorites folders that are easier to rearrange

2026-10-24 · Fixes

- Browsing a long history with the pointer no longer stutters. Time per frame during hover-scrolling drops from roughly 17 ms to 9 ms, and the preview still follows the pointer the whole way — the taller your history, the more obvious the difference. With thousands of entries it now feels much like browsing a few dozen.
- Thumbnails and source-app icons in the list are cached, and each is decoded at the size it is actually drawn. Scrolling back over something you have already seen brings the picture straight back instead of a blank placeholder blinking in first.
- Reordering the folders in your favorites no longer drags. While you drag, the original row steps out of the list, leaving only the image following your pointer and an open slot where it will land — so what is moving, and where it is going, stays visible the whole time.
- A folder can now be picked right where you edit or add a favorite, instead of filing it afterwards. The folder rail on the left can also be dragged wider or narrower, so long folder names no longer have to be squeezed.
- iCloud sync had a dead end: once a piece of content failed to upload, it could stay stuck for good. That is fixed. Switching CloudKit environments now re-uploads the originals held on this Mac, and downloading an item whose cloud copy no longer exists no longer reports an error.

## v1.4.0 — Folders for your favorites — the paste panel still finds things by search

2026-10-24 · Update

- The favorites page now has a folder rail down the left: All Favorites, Ungrouped, and any folders you make. Creating one, renaming it with a double-click and dragging them into a new order all happen in that rail — there is no separate management window to open.
- Drag a favorite onto a folder to file it; drop it on Ungrouped to take it back out. Right-clicking a row offers Move to Folder, and when several rows are selected they move as one group.
- Deleting a folder never deletes what is inside it — those items simply return to Ungrouped. Taking an item out of your favorites also removes it from whichever folder held it.
- The paste panel deliberately gained no folder navigation: finding something there still means typing. Search does now match folder names as well, and results that match the content itself always come first.
- Filing doesn't reshuffle the panel — the Favorites tab keeps the order it always had. All Favorites in Settings shows that same order flat, and dragging there is how you change it.
- Folders travel with your data: export your favorites or a history archive and the folder structure comes along, so it is still there after importing on another Mac; with iCloud sync on, the folders themselves sync too.

## v1.3.0 — A paste queue: line up several items, then paste them one ⌘V at a time

2026-10-22 · Milestone

- When the order is already clear in your head, select the items and press ⇧↵ — they join a paste queue, and each further ⌘V drops the next one in. Select more than one and a small capsule floats up over the panel with the count, Paste All and Paste One by One, so starting the sequence doesn't mean going hunting through menus.
- The queue has a floating window of its own: click any row to paste that one, drag rows to reorder, grow or shrink the window, or pause halfway through and pick up later. When you reach the end the list stays put — repeating the same batch is one action, not a fresh selection.
- Collection mode fills the queue as you go: copy one thing, then another, without stopping what you're doing, while the menu bar keeps count of what's still waiting.
- Nothing has to march in a straight line. Skip a row that doesn't belong, step back to the previous one and paste it again, or turn the remainder around and start from the last item. Any row that doesn't seem to have landed gets marked, so a missed paste doesn't quietly break the run.
- Multi-select pastes in the order you picked, with a number beside each item so the sequence is visible before the first ⌘V. Images and files go out as the originals, one at a time — a mixed selection no longer collapses into a string of file names.
- Two paste landings are fixed: pasting into a web floating window such as Overlay keeps the keystrokes there instead of handing them to the app in front, and abbreviation expansion under a Chinese input method no longer leaves the trigger behind or loses the expanded text.

## v1.2.0 — Set an abbreviation for a snippet to expand it anywhere, and long screenshots that stitch sideways

2026-10-03 · Milestone

- Give any clip in your history a short abbreviation — from ⌘K, the right-click menu, or More in the preview pane. From then on, typing that abbreviation in any text field expands it into the whole thing, so the lines you paste ten times a day come down to a few keystrokes.
- Manual scrolling capture now notices when a page scrolls sideways and stitches the strips into one wide image, exactly as it already does for tall pages — there's no separate mode to pick first.
- A long screenshot no longer has to start at the top. Begin in the middle, scroll up to catch what's above, then down for the rest, and both halves join into one continuous image.
- Stitching holds up on the awkward pages — a fixed sidebar, a floating video player, long stretches of whitespace — without bogging down the longer it runs, and the thin white line that used to creep in along the bottom is gone.
- Kopit handles the clipboard with more discretion: it now honours the common clipboard-marking conventions, so anything a password manager or similar app flags as transient or sensitive stays out of your history.

## v1.1.2 — Hold ⌘ while annotating to add another window to the same screenshot

2026-09-22 · Update

- Hold ⌘ while you're annotating a screenshot and sweep the pointer over another window — it lights up. Click, and that window joins the image you already captured. No more racing to open a menu before the shot, and no throwing away the first frame to start over: freeze the moment first, look at what you've got, then decide whether a second window belongs in the picture.
- Added the wrong one? Click the ✕ on the window's outline to take it back out. Layers sort themselves by how the windows sit on screen, so a submenu captured first and its parent menu added afterwards come out the right way round — the parent settles behind instead of covering it.
- Redrawing the selection is the same gesture as always: hold ⌘ and drag. And a ⌘-click that doesn't land on a window does nothing at all — the selection you've already drawn stays where it is.
- The info line along the bottom of the main panel is back to a regular weight; it no longer runs bold across the whole row and pulls the eye away from everything else.
- The duplicate Translate entry is gone from the More menu — one action, one entry.

## v1.1.1 — A soft drop shadow for screenshots, with a shadow switch on the size badge

2026-09-11 · Update

- Screenshots can now carry a soft drop shadow, so a shot sits with a little depth when you drop it into a document or a chat. It's off by default: flip it on from the toolbar whenever you need it, and Kopit remembers that choice.
- The shadow switch sits on the size badge at the top-left of the selection frame. The frame's dimensions stay visible while you shoot, and you can drag the badge to any corner and let it snap into place.
- An image that already brings its own shadow no longer picks up a second, window-level shadow when you pin it to the desktop — no more double shadow.
- The translation result card's header no longer repeats the engine name — that belongs to the tab — and the language-pack download button now spells out what is being downloaded and who started it.
- Translations across all eight languages were corrected throughout, covering Korean register, French spacing around punctuation, Traditional Chinese wording and placeholders.

## v1.1.0 — Screen translation arrives — translate a region, an annotation, a pin or the clipboard preview

2026-09-11 · Milestone

- Screen translation is here: translate a selected region, the annotation editor, an image you've pinned, the result card and the clipboard preview. The translation lands right on the picture, as an editable annotation.
- You choose the engine. macOS on-device translation is the default and stays offline, but you can add online engines — AI models, DeepL and more — then press Tab on the result card to switch between them and compare side by side.
- A new word lookup covers phonetics, definitions, example sentences and common phrases, with pronunciation playback and word forms.
- The result card can be dragged, resized and pinned to your desktop; edit the source text and it translates again on the spot. Its appearance and accent colour follow your app settings.
- Settings gains a dedicated Translation page for the shortcut and the default language — which starts out following your system language.
- The menu-bar tray's capture menu now also offers scrolling capture and text recognition.

## v1.0.4 — Audio recording, an on-screen presentation mode, and a reworked pin drag

2026-09-08 · Milestone

- Record your voice without leaving Kopit: start from the menu bar or a keyboard shortcut, and the card shows a waveform you can audition right there. Each recording joins your clipboard history like any other item, or you can pin it to the desktop and play it back whenever you like.
- A new presentation mode annotates directly over any screen — highlighter, laser pointer, whiteboard or blackboard, spotlight and step numbers. Clicks pass through the layer, so the app underneath keeps responding; the markings save as an image in one action, and the tool and colour you used last are waiting next time you present.
- Screen recording catches up too: cursor effects can be previewed while you frame the region and their colour adjusted, a small camera window now answers to gestures, and the presentation tools — spotlight, laser pointer, whiteboard and more — can be used as live annotations inside a recording as well.
- Desktop pins got a clearer drag gesture: flick one outward to discard it, drag onto it to drop a file in, and press Esc mid-drag to change your mind. Video pins also gained a sound on/off switch.
- A run of feel fixes: the menu-bar recording timer no longer drifts out of sync, discarding one card no longer scatters the rest onto another display, and letting go mid-drag springs the card back instead of dropping it.

## v1.0.3 — Cursor effects for recordings, and a settings page each for screenshots and recording

2026-08-28 · Update

- Screen recording gains cursor effects rendered straight into the frame: a spotlight that follows the cursor, ripples on each click, and an on-screen readout of the keys you press — and you can turn each one on or off from the recording bar mid-take.
- Every recording default now lives in Settings: where files are saved, MP4 or GIF, frame rate, Retina or standard resolution, the countdown, system audio and the microphone, and whether the cursor is shown.
- Screenshots and recording each get their own settings page, so the options you reach for most are no longer scattered under unrelated tabs.
- In the screenshot settings you can toggle the four-corner shortcut hints shown while you frame a shot, and choose the language used for text recognition (OCR).

## v1.0.2 — Panel context menus, clearer text entry, arrows that follow your hand

2026-08-26 · Update

- Right-click the empty space in the panel's top bar to switch layout, light/dark, accent colour and the preview pane — no trip to Settings.
- Category tabs gained a "Shown Categories" submenu: tick one to show or hide it, bring a hidden category back from the same list, and jump straight to the category editor.
- Inline text entry reads as text entry now: renaming a clip gets a clear, taller field, and the new-category field takes focus so you can just start typing.
- Hovering another row while renaming no longer moves the selection — which used to end the rename you were still typing.
- Tooltips at the panel's top-right corner are no longer clipped by its edge, and every one of them shows its keyboard shortcut.
- Screenshot annotation: bending an arrow by its centre grip no longer snaps. The curve follows the pointer exactly, and bowing it through straight to the other side is one continuous drag.
- The iCloud sync details list keeps its scroll position when it refreshes, and shows up to 5,000 entries instead of 1,000.

## v1.0.1 — Editing shortcuts work again in Settings; update notes in your language

2026-08-11 · Fixes

- Fixed copy, paste and select-all shortcuts doing nothing in the Settings window and in save dialogs.
- The in-app update dialog now shows its release notes in the interface language you're using.

## v1.0.0 — Kopit 1.0, and a Mac App Store edition

2026-08-09 · Milestone

- Kopit reaches 1.0 and arrives on the Mac App Store. File access was rebuilt for the sandbox, so the panel, pins, previews and recordings all read the files you've granted access to.
- The App Store edition unlocks through an in-app purchase and ships without licence keys or the self-updater; the site edition keeps serial activation and auto-updates. The About page spells out which build you're on.
- Arrow bending was reworked: straightening is easier, a straight arrow now stays straight instead of curving at a touch, and long arrows can finally be pulled flat.
- Capture is steadier — hovered web content survives window picking, taking a screenshot no longer wakes the input method, and a selection can't spill onto another display.
- iCloud sync stops retrying originals it can't decrypt and explains the error in plain language. The menu bar menu gained a timed pause for clipboard recording.

## v0.5.18 — Window shadows are back; main-display windows selectable again

2026-08-03 · Fixes

- The frozen capture reverts to a CG-first path, so window shadows show up in screenshots again.
- Screen-level overlays are excluded from window candidates, fixing "no window on the main display can be picked".

## v0.5.17 — The 1.6-second capture hitch is gone

2026-08-03 · Fixes

- Transparent-edge trimming got a scan bound and skips full-screen overlay panels, removing a hitch of up to 1.6 seconds.
- Pre-grabbing individual windows now runs in parallel, so capture responds faster.

## v0.5.16 — Capture latency regression fixed

2026-08-03 · Fixes

- Fixes the 4× latency regression introduced by the pre-grab and trimming work in v0.5.14.

## v0.5.15 — No more lag on the first screenshot

2026-08-03 · Fixes

- ScreenCaptureKit is kept warm, so the first capture after a long idle no longer pays a cold-start delay.

## v0.5.14 — ⌘-hover to pick a window, pixel-aligned loupe

2026-08-03 · Update

- Hold ⌘ and hover to select a window directly; arrow keys nudge the selection pixel by pixel.
- The loupe is pixel-aligned and steps through power-of-two magnifications, so picking colours and aligning edges is exact.
- Menu bar NSPopover panels can be captured, with their transparent margins trimmed automatically.
- Pins can be deleted with the Delete key, and their shadow outline no longer drifts when reopened.

## v0.5.13 — Text decoding rewritten

2026-07-28 · Fixes

- Clipboard text decoding is unified, so multi-byte text is handled consistently everywhere.

## v0.5.12 — A warning-free release pipeline

2026-07-28 · Fixes

- Every warning in the release pipeline is cleared, and a pre-release checklist is now in place.

## v0.5.11 — Fixes a launch crash on macOS 13

2026-07-28 · Milestone

- Fixes an immediate crash on launch under macOS 13 (a dyld hard reference from VisionKit's default implementation).
- A missing localization table no longer aborts the app; it falls back to the default language.
- Adds launch and crash logging, plus a one-command script for collecting diagnostics.

## v0.5.10 — Syntax highlighting handles deep nesting

2026-07-27 · Fixes

- Code highlighting now recurses through deeply nested structures, so long snippets colour completely.

## v0.5.9 — Annotation handles and favicon caching

2026-07-24 · Fixes

- Annotation control points are easier to grab, and bending is animated.
- Link previews cache site favicons, so they load faster.

## v0.5.8 — Simpler arrow settings

2026-07-24 · Fixes

- The separate curved-arrow option is gone — bending is driven purely by the drag gesture.

## v0.5.7 — Curved arrows and a recording folder

2026-07-24 · Update

- The arrow tool gained a curve option, with smoother drag behaviour.
- Settings can now specify where recordings are saved.
- The categories table has full headers and an actions column, with buttons that no longer appear only on hover.

## v0.5.6 — Settings rebuilt, with panel and sync upgrades

2026-07-23 · Milestone

- Settings gained sub-tabs, icons and a far more visible search. Capture splits into Screenshot / Recording / Pins, and shortcuts are shown inline on each feature page — editable, jump-to-highlight, with conflict checking.
- History export supports multi-select by type and requires system authentication before it runs; excluded apps now block Keychain and password managers by default.
- The sync page estimates iCloud storage use, and soft-deleted large originals free their space after an hour while tombstones stay for 30 days.
- The clipboard recognises private file copies from Cursor and VS Code, and web content from Figma; link previews load favicons asynchronously.
- Edge mode matches window mode's colour cards, preview visibility resizes the window, and opening near the pointer prefers the lower-right.

## v0.5.5 — Settings goes from nine tabs to six

2026-07-22 · Milestone

- The information architecture was reorganised: nine tabs collapse into six, a Capture & Recording page is added, and settings are searchable.
- History splits into History and Sync sub-tabs, and the sync page keeps a configuration preview even when sync is off.
- Display modes and the preview pane are illustrated with cards, so each layout is recognisable at a glance.
- The settings window is resizable and remembers its height; edge mode's scroll monitoring self-heals.

## v0.5.4 — Annotation polish

2026-07-20 · Milestone

- The panel gained a bottom bar (edge) mode, so clipboard history can live at the edge of the screen like a Dock.
- The bottom bar's visual design and layout were tuned to match.

## v0.4.9 — Better image decoding, with an SVG fallback

2026-07-20 · Fixes

- Reverts the CloudKit environment change that prevented release builds from launching.

## v0.4.0 — iCloud history sync arrives

2026-07-17 · Milestone

- Sync status is visible in the list, the preview and the details view — upload progress, pending size, click to download.
- Recording gained microphone and system audio capture options.
- The free tier's 24-hour history window now has a clear notice and upgrade path, and sync settings preview even without Pro.
- The sync engine closed a batch of edge cases: no duplicates on paste, re-uploads are updates rather than rejected inserts, and downloaded copies take part in LRU eviction.

## v0.3.6 — Capture a sheet on its own; pin multiple files

2026-07-12 · Update

- Picking an open sheet captures just that sheet, not the whole scaled window group.
- Several files can be pinned at once, with improved panel navigation.
- A demo mode hides Kopit's own interface during capture — useful when recording tutorials.

## v0.0.6 — Licensing and the free tier arrive

2026-07-01 · Milestone

- Licensing ships: device identity, trial registration, entitlements that apply immediately, and a dedicated Licence tab in settings.
- The free tier uses a rolling history window, prompting to upgrade for anything beyond it.
- Snippets can be imported and exported from settings.
- The panel and pins moved to status-bar window level, so other windows can no longer cover them.

- A text expansion engine with snippet management: define an abbreviation and expand it into your usual text in any app.
- Tabs became a category system, and favourites gained manual management with titles.
- Search matches are highlighted — including text found by OCR in images — and long content scrolls to the match.
- Pins gained transparent reveal, scaling animations, and scroll-to-adjust opacity and font size; images support Live Text selection.
- Adds save-to-file, content replacement, retention-based history pruning, and a localized interface.

## v0.0.3 — Desktop pins and drag-to-reorder

2026-06-18 · Milestone

- Desktop pins arrive: keep an image or a piece of text on your desktop, with edge resizing, arrow-key movement, magnification and opacity control.
- The panel supports drag-to-reorder, tabs can be hidden or shown, and the favourites list reorders the same way.
- Quick Look previews and code highlighting are integrated, and colour values render as swatches.
- Thumbnail and full-image caches are separate and bounded, and the list warms at launch for smoother scrolling.
